Kim: When you fall for your friend, there’s a moment when you realize that you want them to be more than just your friend. It was February 2007. It was after midnight and my friends and I had just left a bowling party in Brooklyn. It was a cold, windy night and we began our slow trek to the subway. Win was beside me, trying to stay warm. Win, the guy in my class who always sat in the back and kept to himself had been slowly working his way into my core group of friends. As we walked side-by-side, my only thought was “I wish I could hold his hand.” I was thankful for the alcohol in my system because, being the shy person that I am, I would have never had the courage to do what I did next. I took my arm and linked it with his. I turned to face him and said “It’s so cold!” He turned and smiled at me and squeezed my arm. We continued walking to the subway linked together. Beneath, the scarf wrapped around my face, I had the biggest smile. One month later we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend and the rest was history.
Win: It’s hard to pin point exactly when I fell in love with Kim. Maybe it was during the numerous times she hooked her arm around mine and dragged me on some adventure, or when she would whip up something delicious in her tiny dorm room, or seeing her pursuit of perfection in all our classes together. When I finally mustered up the courage to ask her out, I couldn’t believe she agreed and to be honest I still don’t know what she saw in me. What draws me to Kim isn’t her big moments, but rather her small ones. The ones that make me laugh, that make me smile, that make me think, and that make me better. One lifetime probably isn’t enough to fully explore all the small surprising moments that she has to offer, but I’m willing to take a chance.
